part one: tamarindo beach

picking a resort was tougher than originally anticipated. we knew we wanted privacy and relaxation, but didn't want to be more than a short ride from night life. enter, hotel cala luna. this report was perfect for those that want both nightlife and relaxation. the resort itself was gorgeous and secluded with a private beach, but cabs were always available if you didn't want to walk the 10 minutes into downtown. the sunset happy hour every night didn't hurt either.

part two: rio perdido

the next leg of our journey started with a long and bumpy car ride into the jungle. our resort, rio perdido, was an oasis in the middle of jungle, hiking trails, and hot springs. the central building where the restaurant and bar are found was open air with views on all sides. the entire resort has only 20 private bungalows, so the experience feels very authentic. the more adventurous activities include zip lining, canyoning, tubing, and hiking.
